I'm guessing that you use of the term "justification"
(as opposed to, say,"explanation") is no accident.
Justification means "to show something to be right
or reasonable," and so implies an objective standard.
The idea of objective standards of aesthetics has
been a huge issue in philosophy. Are there
"universal value judgements" in aesthetics or is it
just a matter of personal taste? If I like a painting
and you don't, which one of us is correct? I think
that's your paper. Sam
