>>"So did the taxation of cotton warrant secession? The Federal government had a right to tax cotton. They did it through a democratic process. That is by no means "telling the South what to do."<<<<

This process was NOT so democratic. Due to the
tariff(tax) that was collected on each bale of
Cotton, the South was paying 75% of the taxes,
while the North only paid 25%, yet 80% of the
tariff(tax) money collected was being spent in
the North on improvements for the North.
Northern factories, Northern Railraods, Northern
Cs, Northern Roads, and Northern Fishing
fleets were being built with this tax money.

On top of all this, the North had the freight
rates set in their favor. It cost them 75% less
to ship a ton of manufactured goods from
Boston to Charleston, than it cost Southerners
to ship a ton of cotton from Charleston to
Boston.

The North charged 40% more for a plow manufactured
in New England, than the Southerners could buy
the same plow from England.

Furniture manufactured in the North was 200%
more expensive than comparable furniture
manufactured in England and/or France.

Financially, the Northeastern Robber Barons
were draining the monetary life blood from
the South, they were using Southern Tariff
(tax) money to build up their infrastructure
and then robbing the South blind with the cost
of these goods manufactured in factories built
with Southern Money extracted from the South
by the Federal Government in the form of tariffs
(taxes).

Now any people on the earth would wish to be
free from such treatment.
