: : I have a paper to write on the great gatsby and the american dream...i was wondering if i could get some information on it...thanks a lot
This is a reply to your plea!! I am too writing a paper and here is a my introduction to my essay. Since my prompt is how Fitzgerald uses literary techniques to develope the theme of achieving the American dream it is a little different but here goes.
The theme of the F.Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is that wealth and greed of those
who do not posses integrity and strong morals interily contradicts the honorable and
admirable means of attaining the “American Dream”. Can each of us achieve our own
"American dream" while recognizing needs of other individuals, society, and future
generations?
The American dream, much like it is today, consisted
of four parts
*America is the New Eden
*Optimism is in the future
*Believe in your importance
*Triumph of the individual
For a long-time American residents, as well as American newcomers, a common bond
exists: belief in the American Dream. Core to the dream is the belief that anyone in
America, with enough hard work and ingenuity, can make something of himself and
become rich.
Because the American Dream has been true for enough people, it still holds appeal for
others
Achieveing the American Dream is what all people strive to accomplish. To attain this
dream is based on personal preference, but most seem to want happiness and success is
whatever they do. They work hard and struggle to reach that goal, like our forefathers did
back when this nation was still young. The purity and innocence of the American Dream
has become corrpted and poisioned with greed and the neccesity for wealth. Morals and
values have been pushed aside all in efforts to reach the so called American Dream. This
new American Dream is just a fraud keeping those who desire only riches in it’s grasp
and allowing those who know and understand the true connotation of the American
Dream to p.
these don't make sense now but I hope it helps!!
