Criticism of Fitzgerald? Maybe that he can be meticulous when it comes to rashing out a character's thought process (like in "This Side of Paradise"). Although I enjoyed it much of the time it certainly didn't make for "can't-put-it-down" reading. Supposedly the main character in that book (is it Nick?) is very much a reflection of the author and his intellectual evolution.
It seems a common theme in Fitgerald's work where love takes it's toll on the protagonist, reducing him from a confident, powerful intellectual to a drunk or some other sort of wretch. I don't know if this speaks volumes for Zelda.
Would like to hear your comments - what are you're takes? Did you like "Paradise"?
