: : : : : What did Nietzsche think "progress" was?
: : The "progression" towards the end of mankind.
: PROGRESS HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH HIS JOURNEY---NOT MANKIND---HIS GOAL WAS NOT TO TEACH IT ,THIS PROGRESS, FOR IT IS VIRTUALLY UNTEACHABLE. THE PROGRESS WAS HIS LETTING GO AND GOING UP. DOES ANYONE TRULY UNDERSTAND WHAT IS MEANT BY THAT????
First of all, lets us all understand this: Nietzschean
philosophy does not fit within the ideological doctrines
of the Enlightenment. Therefore: Nietzsche was
not concerned with the progress of mankind, or,
for that matter, he was not even concerned with the
progression of himself. However, an answer can be
given forth despite the obvious futility: Neitzsche
was concerned, quite obviously, with the idea of
the Overman, who was the conqueror of mankind --or,
more specifically, the destroyer of Christian faith.
If you refer to Nietzsce's widely-noted paen to the
eternal recurrence, which was a fundamental means of
propagation for him, it will be elicidated that, for Nietzsche,
the goal of man was to create a life that would be worth
living on a perpetual contiuum. But, as you most likely
have gleaned, if Neitzsche believes that everything
that is becoming now, has became, and will, inevitably,
become again, where is there room for progress? If there
is an eternity where nothing can change; where the same
menial occurences reccur over and over, without any
hope of ever rising above your past existence. It is bleak,
but, nevertheless, it destroys all concepts.
