Great to see you reading a fine work.
And wanting help with a yet more confused and complex work The birth.Well having read both I think I can suggest some interpretation.I find that The birth of tragedy is coupling of the Appolininan and Dionysian.In that the appollinian is to be linked with the scientific,rational and most important to Nietszche the hiding from reality.The appollinian is a redemption through illusion I think what Nietszche wants to explain is the irrational(Dionysian) that came from the greek civilisation. The highest civilisation to have existed for Nietszche.He sees that dionysian is an intoxication a seeing into the abyss.The living with the very terror of life.But this needs a mask the appollinian just as the Appollinian needs the dionysian.Raskolnikov himself looks into the abyss.
