: Hi, : looking over 'Nietzsche Contra Wager' again while answering a question on Nietzsche's views on the theater, I clashed again with one of the most frustrating sentences of his that I have encountered. It is in the 3rd paragraph of 'Where I offer objections,' : "And so I ask myself: What is it that my whole body expects of music? For there is no soul. I believe,its own ease: as if all animal functions should be quickened by easy, bold, exuberant, self-ured rhythyms; as if iron,leaden life should lose its gravity through golden, tender, oil-smooth melodies" : Why does N. insist HERE that there is no soul? I haven't read the original form of this page which exists in 'The Gay Science'.....Does anyone know if thatpage offers any more clarity? Do any of the aphorisms dealing with the soul in 'Beyond Good and Evil' clarify this strange abberation? I haven't noticed myself.
