Of course Nietzsche rejects any umption that there is an omnibenevolent creator as intellectually unconscionable; the God that we have killed is our construct, our way of ordering and (de)valuing the world. I take "God is dead" to mean that we cannot derive the comfort and guidance from God that we once did because God is now unbelievable. We have or will come to see that God is a 'gross answer' posited by our interested and perhaps depraved ancestors. The danger in this comes from the turbulence created when people who reject life in this world in favor of an ideal afterlife come to see that there is no salvation, nothing but the world of becoming. The death of God is very like the crutch falling out from under a weary culture: God was an attempt to cope and live more comfortably, but after relying on God for so long, we will have trouble getting along without him.
