: I have some questions on Holden if anyone can answer them please reply
: Why was Holden so obsessed with the ducks in the pond in Central Park?
: Why was he "not in the mood" to communicate with Jane?

: Also does anyone know any similarities of Franny and Zooey and Catcher int he Rye?

I think that the ducks in the pond is a parallel to Holden himself... he wanted to know what happened to them in the wintertime, that is, when conditions are harsh. Holden himself was considering leaving the world behind and on some level wondered in which direction nature would point him. I dont think that he was really obsessed with the ducks so much as he was curious.

: I think that he never gets around to calling up Jane gallagher because he may be afraid of disappointment. He was disappointed by virtually all of the characters that he interacts with in the course of the story, and is afraid to shatter the residual image of such an ideal girl from the past... i also think that he was somewhat self conscious though he never mentioned that.
