In my opinion, and as is stated in the book, the fat lady not only represents christ but all of us (including oneself). Salinger is saying that no matter what medium you use to honor christ through (even acting) you are still making the difference. You dont need to honor him through saying some kind of silly phrase over and over. A symbol of this point can be seen in the shining of the shoes during a radio broadcast. you dont have to reach christ through the sensible medium, and he sees any effort you make (no matter how ridiculous it may seem) as long as you do it with good intentions. Another representation is this is the "consecrated chicken soup" that bessie feeds franny.
