: I am looking for some information on the significance of the cows in Portrait...Also looking for stuff on his perception of women..I see major Oedipal Cycle, does anyone else??
Cows...I see a lot of biblical stuff with cows...Paul wrote in a lot of his letters about how they should be eatting steak, not milk...That's how it was with Stephen...He saw the cow how it was, and it compared to his religion at the time.
chapter 1-Moocow, pretty, like a tale
Chapter 2-Milkman, importance of Cows, beauty, Icky
Chapter 3-Jesus born in a poor cowhouse
Stephen has no real faith, but has this religion that is not real. He just goes along with it, and you can compare how each time the cow is brought up, it compares to what he is thinking about religion. Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship, which is what Stephen missed. To him, it was an act, which is what Paul was trying to help the people with in his letters in the Bible.
