There are a few themes that run through the Dubliners-
-PARALYSIS - People are limited in what they can do in Dublin.In some stories i.e the sisters and grace there is a focus on the lack of spirituality of the church, Joyce is saying that the church has lost its way and has exchanged spiritual values for material, petty details e.g different colours of robes for m.
-There are different types of paralysis featured
political- Ivy day.... ual-a painful case
emotional-Eveline
GROWTH AND MATURITY - The first three stories are about childhood, they still have dreams and adventures.We see a transition between youthful hope and adult despair as they begin to realise the limitations of life in Dublin.
DUBLIN-Dublin runs through the whole collection.Joyce himself moved away from Dublin.
These are the 3 notable themes.
