narrative point of view is very important in the story cos we are able to get inside the character's (Gabriel) head. this is very important in understanding the theme of the story. re read the last two pages of the story. whats happening? earlier in the story when we are in Gabriel's conciousness (narrative POV is placed in his mind) we know that he thinks of himself as cultivated and more educated then the rest of the guests at the dinner. at the end of the story when Gretta tells him about michael furey he realizes what a small part this marriage has been in her life, and that he was not really living his life (he in a sense has been "dead" b/c he has not been living his life to the full extent, or something like that im not sure if im explaining this well enough) anyway point of view is important b/c without it being placed in Gabriel's mind we wouldnt know how he felt...and especially how he finally saw himself for the way he really was (after gretta told him her story) that he was a nervous, foolish, ridiculous man.
