In Araby, religion is a key aspect among others such as allusion and imagery, and motif..But religion is spoke of very heavily. for instance.in the beginning he speaks of the Priest that owned the house previously. The boy speaks of things he found that use to be owned by the Priest, such as a book on romance, and detective stories, all showing how the Priest escaped from his life through these books. There is also acknowledgement of the Catholic School- This stands as a prison, with an underlyning way of James joyce blaiming the church for Ireland's problems. The young boy in the story, knows nothing of love, so he connects his "puppy love" feelings for the girl with thechurch. He prays to her. The enslaving catholic church is referenced several times.
