In the New Testament, somewhere in the synoptic gospels, Jesus is questioned about the nature of heaven. He responds by considering a situation in which a woman is successively compelled to marry a series of brothers, each of whom dies to be replaced by the next. He poses the question, --who will she be reunited with? The upshot conclusion is that she will be as among equals in heaven and that none will have greater significance than the others.
That bodes ill for all Christians who have mistakenly expected to reunite meaningfully with their departed loved ones. Democracy reigns in heaven, and our petty attachments forged on earth are as nothing to god.
