: I am a freshman in college and I have to write a paper that defines "Generation X". If you can help me or tell me where I can find it out, please e-mail me. Thanks.
I suggest you take a look at "Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture" by Douglas Coupland published in 1992. This book coined the term Generation X and originally defined it. It has since been redefined and, in fact, been applied to a generation that it was not meant to include.
In short, Generation X (as defined by Coupland), born in the 60s, lives in the shadows of the Baby Boomers and now, ironically, the new definition of Generation X, born in the 70s. The Baby Boomers dominate the media and the markets by their great numbers alone, and the later, so-called Generation X'ers, children of the Baby Boomers dominated the media again by numbers.
The original Generation X, now in their 30's, was never really noticed, as Coupland described them.
