: Wrong, these categories are as ridiculous as "race" categories, i.e., non-existent. It is not as clear cut as that. I was born in '79. But wait, don't jump to conclusions because... : My mother was born in '43 (yet the 4th of 5 children), and my sister in '64. My cousins are all 60s and early-mid 70s kids. : I understand that I have things in common with both "groups"...however for the sake of those born in '79, I have a bone to pick. : If you are to rely on stereotypes, read what follows: : 1. My all-time fav movie was Star Wars, and I wrote letters to Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher (talk about obsessive...). Followed by other favs: Top Gun, Grease, Yellow Submarine...and more : 2. My first horror movie was 'Night of the Living Dead' the first one, followed by Freddy and Jason etc. : 3. My only memories of video games is Atari at a friend's house and PacMan at the pizza store. : 4. My first record was an Abba, followed by Boy George, Bangles, BeeGees, Wings, Thompson Twins...I even still own the Empire Strikes Back record, as well as several Muppet and Sesame Street Records, and the original Annie record. : 5. Fav shows: Busom Buddies, Three's Company, Facts of Life, Nightcourt, Cagney and Lacy, Father Knows Best, I Love Genie, Bewitched, LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY(loved that), so many others... : 6. Learned to type on a typewriter : 7. ...never owned a computer. Actually did all research throughout my educational years with the Dewey Decimal System and those drawers full of book index cards... : 8. moved from records to tapes to CDs : 9. first CD was Violent Femmes : 10. made mix tapes, not CD burns : 11. was afraid of catching AIDS from toilet seats : 12. everyone cool smoked and did heroine or cocaine (now that's pathetic) : 13. had a crimper : 14. had a WHAM! t-shirt : 15. remember watching A-HA and Duran Duran on MTV (Girls on Film) : 16. had friends who's parents has been in jail for trying to get from East to West Germany : 17. had nuclear bomb drills until sophmore year of high school (the USSR was bad bad) : 18. Had to re-learn geography after USSR split up : 19. Still say Leningrad : 20. I think you get the point : And I could go on. I really didnt write this to prove anything, just to show people that you really can't arbitrarily place people in categories. Do we ever hear of a bubonic plague generation (ah, those who lived and survived that great epidemic of 1349 and could tell their grandchildren about it), a Crusade generation (I hope not, it spanned several centuries), a conquered generation (those inhabitants of the New World who were brutally overrun by Europeans)? The only reason why people are so obsessed with Generation X (or Y or whatever for that matter) is due to media. We are all so dependent on media for our existence and sense of identity, and that is pathetic. You should feel wary instead of honored of being grouped within a stereotype. : Menna : : : Correction! The "Baby Boom" has clearly been defined as being anyone born between 1946 up until and including 1964. The "X Generation has since been defined as being from 1965 up to 1976. After that you have the "Y Generation" which is now coming of age. : : If you want to get more "technical," you might say that the X-ers are the children of the early Boomers, and the Y-generation are the children of the later Boomers. And YES, there ARE two waves of Boomers, before anyone asks. Some will disagree with me, but talk to a bunch of boomers. Trust me, majority will agree with me.
