Tamo,
One of the many reasons I admire the character of Howard Roark is that he bases his life on the positive. Notice that he doesn't waste his energy on attacking evil, until the end, when he s up the mangled building. He has an impenetrable core of selfish goodness and directs his energy to its service, rather than spend his time and energy fighting others. He cannot be hurt by others because he doesn't even notice them. Defending oneself is an act which only gets one to ground zero at the end. Roark concentrates on doing what he loves, rather than destroying what he hates.
As an example, one of my absolute favorite scenes in The Fountainhead is when Ellsworth Toohey asks him, "What do you think of me?" and Roark says, "I don't think of you."
: Hey All,
: I have to do this survey for cl about which character was most admirable and most disliked. I said that I admired Howard Roark because of his courage and strength of not conforming to society. I disliked Ellsworth Toohey because he was just plain evil. Can anyone respond to this and give some reasoning behind their opinions? Thanks, I appreciate this.
