Well now, that's the contention -- that a few
people, myself included, think the red shift does
not prove the universe is expanding. Those who
say it does, seem to be more bent on selling
Doppler. There's a lot of money in Doppler
radars, not to mention military radar and police
speed traps. Not much money in photon decay,
which resembles a very quiet lake with very
small quiet ripples from a fish jumping on the
far side in the wee misty morning.
The expanding universe idea is also convenient
for making subjective room for people, which I confess is a good idea.
We probably won't prove it either way until
our young space explorers are able to set up
interstellar parallax measurements -- and that
requires going to the stars.
Yeah, 1944 was big shadowy people for me.
I do remember Daddy and Grandma and Grandpa
came in one evening, it was a really big and
dark world. I was three. Pretty fuzzy by now.
