: I finished reading the Martian Chronicles yesterday, and there's a bit that confuses me. As nuclear war begins on Earth, the colonists not only are called home, but choose to go. Why? Why would families call their loved ones home into a holocaust? More importantly, why would people go back? There's nothing they can do to stop the war or save their friends and families back home, and Mars seemed to be self-sufficient by that point... : If someone has the answer and cares to reply by email, that'd be great; if you'd prefer to post a reply here instead, I'll be back later on to look for it.
