Shakespeare, in his Sonnet #3, discusses beauty, and preserving it through progeny. He's talking to a young man. Here's a paraphrase:

Look in the mirror, and tell the face you see there that now is the time to marry, to have a child ... so as to p on the beauty you see. For if you do not do so now, you will miss the chance to do so. After all, what happens to the most beautiful of persons who refuses to have children? What happens to those who love themselves so much they refuse to marry?
You, young man, are the image of your mother's own beauty, which she ped onto you, thus preserving her own youthful features. And you will someday be able to see your own youthful beauty in the face of your child.
If you die without marrying, and having that child, you will be forgotten ... and your image, your personal beauty, will be lost, too.
