Hey Philip, I read your plea, and hope you still care... I'm new here, and probably not sticking around. A friend of mine pointed me to your cry, and I felt to answer it.
My friend, predestination isn't the big thing that a few people claim it to be. We have our choices, and are responsible for them. Don't feel that you aren't God's "elect", for He has said that He is willing that no one should perish.
God gave us the choice, and never takes it away.
You backslid, and don't know if you can get back up. I understand that, completely, and am afraid I don't have any easy answers. But God promised, that "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness" - 1 John 1:9. Because of what Jesus did on the Cross, we can be forgiven, and are. No matter how many times we fall, if we repent about our sin, God picks us back up. Don't beat yourself up over this. God has forgiven you if you've been sincere about asking Him to. It's all about grace. It's a free gift of unmerited favour. There is nothing that you can do to earn it.
In that, I wan to encourage you. I don't know what all sins you're dealing with. But I know that trying to get rid of them by yourself is impossible. Sometimes God takes them away instantly, and sometimes, they remain. Our lives are a process, either way. We can never be perfect. But as we grow in Christ, He remakes us into His image gradually, until the day when we meet Him face to face.
I will tell you this. It all depends on love. God loves you so much that He made His grace available. If we are to live for Him, we need to love Him, too. Love is what makes us able to overcome our weaknesses.
I don't know if this helps you. I myself sin, more than I want to. I've struggled with a particular sin for several years, and God hasn't taken it away. I desperately wish that He would, but as I walk with Jesus, and continually confess and repent for my sins, I sin less. Sometimes I fall back into a rut, but God is faithful to pull us out. I want to encourage you, that you are only *condemned* when you decide to not get back up after a fall. As long as you continue to walk with God, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is sufficient to present us blameless at the end.
Please, don't give up.
