I am halfway throuh the book now. The reference to Jefferson's pillow is not what it seems....rmeember his ertion that one of his first memories was being carried on a pillow by a slave to a Richmond planation? Well, this book is written by an African American academic who discusses the whole conundrum about being black and patriotic...and the confusion in admiring particularly Jefferson, Washington, and Mason while trying to come to grips with their ideas about blacks.....I am enjoying it a lot.
